Movement Medicine classes are great if you:
- Spend too much time hunched over a screen.
- Want to learn to skillfully handle stress.
- Want to build mind-body strength.
- Realize that you are aging and want to stay playful.
- Prefer inclusive, body-positive, and shame-free classes.
We start with squirmy moves to loosen up tight shoulders, achy backs, and grumpy hips. As we shed our hunched-over postures and deepen our breath, we start to feel our perspective open and our capacity expand.
With lunges, squats, and core work, we sweat and get through the hard stuff with humor and a few (muted) expletives. Eventually we arrive into relaxation, reacquainted with our center and ready to take on our day.
Every body carries a history: trauma, injuries, and whatever you still believe about yourself from junior high gym class. In movement medicine classes we unpack and understand both our limitations and our capabilities. As a teacher I aim to create a classroom that feels safe to move and play again.
You are just like the rest of us! I always offer lots of modifications for injuries, pregnancy, and finding your own pace. To keep moving, we often need to get creative. I recommend joining the live classes where you have full access to me via email and on Zoom before each class begins, allowing me to craft our movement with your injury in mind.
Yes. The classes are always returning to the basics and I give lots of variations for different levels. With Zoom yoga, you can go at your own pace and practice with the camera on or off. With the recordings, you can pick which classes interest you and move through a series on your schedule. This is a great way to start or come back to a movement practice.
These classes go beyond typical yoga poses and vinyasas. I incorporate mobility to loosen up the joints, somatics to build the mind/body connection, and strength training for resilience. Every class is different and something you won’t find in a yoga studio.
